Among sectors, the realty index rose 1 percent, while indices for banking, capital goods, consumer durables, IT, oil & gas, power, private banks, and PSU banks declined by 0.5 to 1 percent.
BSE Midcap index shed 0.5 percent, while smalllcap index ended flat.

Markets ended lower in a choppy session, falling over half a percent due to weak signals. The Nifty saw some early gains but moved wildly during the day. In the second half, it dropped sharply below its short-term moving average (20-day EMA), keeping the sentiment negative. It finally closed near the day’s low at 24,539. This is the first time in about one and a half months that the Nifty has clearly broken below this support level. Resistance is expected around 24,800–25,000, while support lies between 24,600–24,200.
