BSE revises Expiry Day for Sensex, Bankex to last Tuesday.

BSE will shift the monthly expiry date of Sensex, Bankex, and Sensex 50 to the last Tuesday from January 2025.

The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) announced on Thursday, November 28, that it will change the expiry days for the Sensex, Bankex, and Sensex 50 index derivatives contracts, effective from January 1, 2025.

Under the new schedule, weekly contracts for the Sensex will expire every Tuesday instead of the current Friday expiration. Additionally, all monthly contracts for Sensex, Bankex, and Sensex 50 will now expire on the last Tuesday of the month, starting from January 1, 2025. Currently, the expiry days for these contracts are the last Friday for Sensex, last Monday for Bankex, and last Thursday for Sensex 50.

Starting January 1, 2025, the expiry day for quarterly and semi-annual contracts of the Sensex will change to Tuesday of the expiry month, instead of the current last Friday. BSE will update the expiry dates for existing index futures and options contracts at the end of December 31, 2024.

After January 3, 2025, all derivatives contracts for Sensex, Bankex, and Sensex 50 will expire on Tuesday.

However, the weekly Sensex contract expiring on January 3, 2025, will remain unaffected. Any new index derivatives contracts created after January 1, 2025, will have their expiry on Tuesday.

BSE stated in its circular that there will be no changes to any other aspects of the contract specifications for the mentioned contracts, except for the expiry day. BSE will make the updated details of these derivative contracts available in the derivatives contract master file, which will be generated at the end of the day on December 31, 2024.
